It’s important to plan for your life as you get older. Consider where you live now and your possible needs for the future. If you live in a two-story home and become disabled or ill, will you be able to navigate the stairs? Is there an accessible full bathroom? Do you have steps at your home’s entry? And what about home maintenance?
Today, there are many options for housing, from “senior” communities to assisted living to full care facilities. It’s a good idea to investigate what choices you have in your community and make some plans before you’re in a crisis situation. Find out what housing options are available, the costs and commitment associated with each, and the type of living situation you would prefer. Check into possible insurance and Medicare coverage, as well.
Of course, there are no guarantees in life, but planning ahead can make the journey easier and much less stressful for you and your loved ones. Take some time out from your busy life to go over the “what ifs.” Do a little research now by visiting care facilities and over-50 communities. Then, you’ll be knowledgeable and prepared for whatever may come.
